Frequently asked questions
Hours, holidays, seasonal street changes, payments — the essentials about Attica's markets.
What time does the laiki open and close?
Attica markets set up between 6 and 7:30 am and sell from 7:30 am until 3:30 pm at the latest, according to the Farmers' Markets Authority's timetable. In practice many stalls pack up around 2–2:30 pm. Go early for the widest choice, after 1 pm for the lowest prices.
Which laiki is on today near me?
Each market runs on one fixed weekday, Monday to Saturday. The “Today” page lists every market open today across Attica, and “Near me” sorts them by distance from your location. There are almost no markets on Sundays.
Do farmers' markets run on public holidays or in the rain?
Markets do not operate on official national or local holidays and are usually not rescheduled to another day. They do run in the rain, with fewer stalls; in extreme weather the Attica Region may suspend them by announcement.
Why has my neighbourhood market moved to a different street?
Many Attica markets alternate between two streets by period — usually a winter one (October–April) and a summer one (April/May–September/October) — by decision of the Attica Region. They can also be moved temporarily for roadworks. Laikimap shows the street for the current period and the dates it changes.
Can I pay by card at the laiki?
Yes. Since 1 April 2024 every farmers' market vendor is required to have a POS terminal and accept cards. Cash is still the most common way to pay, so it helps to carry some small change too.
What is the difference between a conventional and an organic laiki?
Conventional markets mix producers and professional traders selling all kinds of goods. Organic markets (βιολογικές λαϊκές) are separate, smaller markets with certified organic growers only, on different sites and days. Laikimap currently covers the 6 conventional markets of Attica.
